Today is a good day, it feels like home again

At last we’re well on our way south and starting to really settle into a routine; getting around the boat and doing regular inspections. The sun is shining and it’s warm and I’m enjoying sitting outside in just a base layer, which is incredible. Today is a good day, it feels like home again.

In terms of performance, I felt we were off the pace yesterday, but today we’re working together and a bit harder. We’re really focusing on keeping the speed up over 10kt and making all the little adjustments, to bring it back. I know the boat a lot better than Ys does but he’s really finding his groove now, and getting to know the boat and we are working well as a team to improve our overall performance.

The conditions have been tricky and you have to put in what you want to get out. If your mind is elsewhere or you’re not really focused on performance at every single second then you are going to be off the pace.

This is a really elite fleet and you can guarantee that everyone else is focused for every second. For me that is where it gets a bit difficult, because I am dealing with an older boat and my attention gets drawn in other directions, but on the whole I’m really happy with how we are handling Superbigou, she is such a lovely boat to sail, she is a beast but lovely!
